How to Garden Reset After a Busy Growing Season 🌼

As the peak of the growing season comes to an end, many of us will find ourselves with a garden that’s grown vigorously and in all directions. Plants threw their summer party and are leaving you with the mess. But even so, there’s nothing more satisfying than a garden reset… And the other day, we did just that for a client!

When hitting the reset button, always consider re-utilizing spent plants and other organic debris as compost or mulch. One thing to note with those invasives and un-wanted weeds is that they can come back to life! They generally aren’t the best mulch/compost option, especially if they’ve gone to seed. Try bagging these plants or having a dedicated space for this material to hopefully perish. This client’s space had plenty of invasives like kudzu, stilt grass, and chamber bitters that needed to go. Something like kudzu is extremely resilient and will regrow from small fragments of its stems or roots.

Buried among the invasives, we found some sweet potatoes, asparagus, annual flowers, Russian sage… plenty to nurture. Our Maintenance & Restoration team have a good eye for differentiating the instant pull vs. the garden gems. Scroll to see the results… With a good mulching, that native soil is protected and ready for more fall gardening, cover cropping, or whatever the client desires. Let us know if we can assist with your reset!
