Booker T. Washington High School

At this historic Atlanta high school, we transformed outdoor spaces into vibrant hubs of sustainability and education. The project included:

  • Edible Landscaping with diverse fruit and vegetable plants to promote healthy eating.
  • Raised Beds for hands-on student gardening.
  • A stunning meadow that enhances biodiversity and serves as a teaching tool.
  • A composting bin system to educate students about waste reduction and soil health.
  • Rainwater Collection systems for sustainable irrigation.
  • A dedicated veggie washing station to prepare harvested produce.
  • A state-of-the-art geodesic greenhouse dome for year-round growing and STEM learning opportunities.

This project supports the school's mission to inspire academic excellence while promoting environmental stewardship.

Rose Circle Park

At Rose Circle Park, we collaborated with the community to create a space that combines ecological restoration with food production. The project included:

  • Volunteer-Based Orchard and Fruit Tree Guild Establishment: With the help of dedicated community volunteers, we planted an orchard featuring diverse fruit trees, underplanted with companion plants to create resilient and productive guilds.
  • Grant-Associated Green Infrastructure: Funded through a community grant, we installed extra-large rain gardens designed to manage stormwater runoff while supporting native plant habitats and pollinators.

This project highlights the power of collaboration and grant funding to transform public spaces into sustainable, multi-functional landscapes. Rose Circle Park now stands as a model for community-driven ecological design.

The New School

At The New School, a local high school that specializes in community-engaged curriculums, we revitalized an overgrown and underutilized part of their property, transforming it into a functional outdoor space for education and food-growing.

Key features of the installation include:

  • Invasive Species Removal and Meadow Creation: We removed decades-old invasive mulberry from a hillside and replaced it with a thriving native meadow, promoting biodiversity and pollinator health.
  • Urban Lot Reclamation: A previously empty lot was transformed into a productive space featuring trellises for raspberries, blackberries, and muscadines, providing fresh fruit and educational opportunities.
  • Pollinator and Herb Gardens: Pollinator-friendly and edible herb gardens were established to support both biodiversity and culinary uses for the school community.
  • Greenhouse Installation: A new greenhouse was added to expand year-round growing and educational activities.
  • Large-Scale Hardscaping: We designed and built pathways and driveways to facilitate accessibility and accommodate material drop-offs, enhancing the functionality of the space.

This project reflects a holistic approach to landscape transformation, creating a space that combines ecological restoration, food production, and practical infrastructure to support the school’s mission

Five Points Farm and Community Garden

Nestled in the heart of downtown Atlanta at the Five Points MARTA station, this project stands as one of the city’s most urban orchards. Collaborating with the Five Points Community Garden and dedicated volunteers, we transformed this bustling urban space into a thriving oasis of greenery and productivity.

Key features of the installation include:

  • Native Pollinator Garden Beds: We established vibrant pollinator-friendly plantings to support urban biodiversity and attract beneficial insects.
  • Urban Orchard: Featuring a variety of fruiting trees, including figs, plums, persimmons, and more, the orchard brings fresh, locally grown fruit to the heart of the city.
  • Volunteer-Led Efforts: Every element of the project was brought to life through the hands of community volunteers, fostering a sense of ownership and connection.

This project exemplifies the potential of urban spaces to serve as hubs for sustainability, food production, and community engagement, even in the densest parts of the city.
