Stone Terracing: One Stone at a Time 🪨

There’s a beauty to stacking stone! And we spent the past week dry stacking, or in other words carefully fitting stones together without mortar so they lock in place by weight and balance alone.

The dry-stacked terrace is a very old idea that has persisted through the years and still offers modern relevance. They slow down stormwater, prevent erosion, and transform unusable space into garden beds. Over time, plants will soften the lines, roots will knit the soil, and this hillside will come alive with life and color.

WHY TERRACES WORK

  • Turn slopes into usable planting space
  • Help manage stormwater naturally
  • Build long-lasting structure without synthetic materials

For this installation we opted for some creeping phlox and creeping jenny as the main perennials that caress the wall edges. As the plants mature, they’ll drape over the sides of the wall and further blend the terraces into the landscape.

The upper terrace features our low-mow seed mix which will give the client some foot traffic area without the pain of constantly mowing all the time. You can imagine how mowing this slope was a bit of an ordeal. We hope y’all adore this transformation as much as we do! If y’all need a front yard revamp, you know who to call…
