For the month of August, we will be discounting the palate-pleasing POMEGRANATE!

Pomegranates are native to the region extending from modern-day Iran to northern India and have been cultivated throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East for thousands of years. Luckily, they also do very well in Southeast USA too! And remember, they are SELF-FERTILE, meaning you can plant just one shrub and have fruit production.

Did you know… the juicy, edible part of the pomegranate is called an aril, which contains the seed and is surrounded by the sweet-tart, juicy pulp. The bulbous little pods of the fruit are eaten fresh, and the juice is commonly the source for grenadine syrup! Pomegranate is high in dietary fiber, folic acid, vitamin C, and vitamin K, and are even said to contain anti-cancer properties!

Here’s some tips for your new pomegranate shrub:

Full Sun: Pomegranates require at least 6-8 hours of full sun daily for optimal growth and fruit production.

Well-Draining Soil: Pomegranates grow best in well-draining soil, sandy loam or loamy soil is ideal.

Consistent Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the first year of growth.

Drought Tolerance: Once established, pomegranates are drought-tolerant and only need watering every 7-10 days.
