Sisyrinchium angustifolium
A charming native perennial that adds delicate texture and bright pops of blue to meadows, garden edges, and sunny understories. Despite its name, blue-eyed grass is actually a member of the iris family, forming tidy clumps of slender, grass-like foliage topped with star-shaped, violet-blue flowers with sunny yellow centers. Blooms appear in late spring to early summer and provide an important nectar source for small native pollinators. Naturally found in open woods, prairies, and moist fields across eastern North America, it thrives in well-drained soils and bright light.
