Lindera benzoin
Native shrub with leaves and fruit used to make an aromatic tea. Grows well in the shade. Pretty yellow fall color. The dried and powdered fruit is used as an "allspice" substitute.
PLANT SPECS
MATURE HEIGHT: 6-12 feet
MATURE WIDTH: 5-10 feet
SOIL PREFERENCE: Moist, rich, well-draining
SUN PREFERENCE: Full sun, part shade, shade
POLLINATION NEEDS: This plant is dioecious, meaning individual plants are male or female. If the goal is to produce berries, plant at least 2-3 shrubs. Planting multiple increases cross-pollination chances and subsequent fruit production.
